How the Domain Availability Checker Works

Our tool queries public RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) endpoints — the modern, standardized replacement for WHOIS — to check whether a domain is currently registered. For TLDs where RDAP may not respond, we fall back to DNS-based checks using Google's public DNS resolver.

Extensions We Check

We scan across the most popular and valuable domain extensions: .com, .net, .org, .io, .ai, .co, .app, .dev, .me, and .xyz. Each result shows instantly whether the domain is available, registered, or unknown.

What to Do If a Domain Is Taken

If the .com is taken but other extensions are available, consider whether an alternative TLD fits your use case. For tech startups, .io and .ai are popular alternatives. For personal projects, .me works well. You can also try our WHOIS Lookup to see when a taken domain expires — it might become available soon.

Ready to Register?

We include direct links to trusted registrars — Namecheap, GoDaddy, and Porkbun — so you can register available domains immediately. Prices vary by registrar and TLD, so we recommend comparing before purchasing.

Availability Checker FAQ

Are the results real-time?
Yes. We query live RDAP and DNS endpoints with every check. Results are not cached, so you always get the latest registration status.
Why does a domain show as "Unknown"?
Some TLDs don't support RDAP queries, and if the DNS check is also inconclusive, we show "Unknown" rather than guessing. In these cases, check directly with a registrar for a definitive answer.
Can I register a domain directly from this tool?
We don't sell domains ourselves, but we provide direct links to Namecheap, GoDaddy, and Porkbun where you can complete your registration.
A domain shows as available but the registrar says it's taken — why?
This can happen with recently registered domains or during RDAP propagation delays. The registrar's system is the authoritative source — our tool provides a fast first check, but always confirm before making decisions.
